About Jess Pennell

Jess joined East Coast Recovery in 2021, previously working as a freelance writer after graduating with a BA Hons Degree in Journalism at The University of Westminster in 2020 and completing an internship at The Times. With a passion for story telling from a teenager Jess wanted to work in a sector she felt inspired to translate. Working alongside colleagues and clients in long-term recovery at East Coast Recovery, and in close collaboration with director and founder Lester Morse, she researches and interprets relevant topics to help raise awareness of addiction and its impacts. Supporting Danielle, the Development and Marketing Manager and in close contact with Scott, Senior Treatment Advisor, Jess keeps up to date with the challenges that those affected by addiction face. 

Residential rehab experience: Content creator for a residential rehab working alongside colleagues and clients in long-term recovery to help tell their story

Addiction experience: Seen firsthand some family and friends affected by addiction

Media and social media background: Freelance journalist and copywriter. Journalism Degree and Internship with The Times, coordination and management of social media channels. Experience proofreading, editing, formatting, and coordinating written content across healthcare, rehabilitation, editorial, and digital sectors. Knowledge of SEO and 5+ years customer service

Working with vulnerable people: Working with sensitive and confidential information. Building professional relationships with those affected by addiction. Creating content that is important, sharing individuals' stories and wanting to inspire and highlight the issues surrounding addiction
